Paula and Cathy Hupka grew up in a family of eight children. Their home was always busy – days were full of imagination and creativity. “Our parents designed a custom home in the early seventies. They worked together on the architecture and design down to the finishes. Our Mother was incredibly talented and way before her time with respect to home décor, cooking and entertaining. Both our Mother and Father had an amazing “flair for style”. That flair for style has passed down through generations and has led the Sisters to join forces and follow their passion through “Beyond Walls”.
Paula started Beyond Walls in 2005 in Denver, Colorado. She has a heart for design and is doing what she loves. “My main goal is to make the design process fun and easy. I enjoy making each home, space or room reflect my client’s style and needs. Homes should reflect who you are and be a comfortable, cozy place that brings you peace”.

Based in Ottawa, Cathy got the Real Estate bug in her 30’s and has bought, re-designed and successfully sold six homes. Throughout the years, Cathy has helped friends and family re-design and/or decorate their homes, office or cottage. In 2006, Cathy had the pleasure of helping with the design and décor for the Ottawa Hospital lottery home. After a long career in High Tech, and much coaching from friends and family Cathy decided to follow her passion for Interior Design. She truly has found her niche and finally feels that she is meeting her full potential doing what she loves. “I enjoy working with clients to bring their vision to life. Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder – it is so exciting when you transform a space that exceeds your client’s expectation. The joy and excitement that it brings to others is the most rewarding thing to me.”

Our Process
Whether it’s a large scale project or an hourly design consultation our process begins with a face to face meeting. We will review your ideas and wishes and offer guidance and suggestions to ensure that we understand your vision. Your inspiration will jump start the planning process and various stages of design and enable us to bring your vision to life.
CONSULTATION
A consultation allows us time to get to know you and your expectations. We will listen, explain our process and answer any questions you may have. We can then tailor a proposal to meet your budget and requirements. Don’t have a huge budget? No problem. For an hourly fee we will walk you through ideas, brainstorm solutions, or provide tips for specific problems such as layout, paint colors, or where to find affordable art.
DESIGN PLANNING
Your vision and some research will help create a plan and proposal. The proposal will take into account your wishes and make suggestions regarding lighting, furniture, art and color with your budget in mind.
TRANSFORMATION
Pulling it all together is our specialty; from finding the perfect art piece, to placing a luscious plant, to creating a peaceful, comfortable oasis. We move through the various stages of design to find you the most efficient, functional, and elegant solution, while adhering to practical measures such as budget, accessibility, and timeline.
